Archival Digital Printing

Longevity

We know that longevity is important to you. We use only the best materials that are rated by a third party laboratory to ensure your work looks great for a long time to come.

We’re one of the few printers in town that thinks deeply about archivability and light-fastness. Many printers user off brand media and inks. For testing by third party laboratories to apply you need to use the actual inks and media that the lab used in their tests.

Ink

We use only manufacturer original ink, not bulk ink tanks from third parties, to ensure that our archival digital prints look great for a long time.

The inks we use are Epson Ultrachrome K3 inks, which are pigment-based inks with exceptional light-fastness.

Media

All of our media is manufacturer original. It’s the only way for us to ensure the quality that meets your expectations.

The media we stock are:

Fibre papers – feels like heavy watercolour papers

  • Epson Hot Press Bright
  • Epson Hot Press Natural
  • Epson Cold Press Natural

RC Style Paper – these papers are similar to traditional photographic prints

  • Epson Premium Lustre

Canvas –  great for prints of painted artwork or even photographic work

  • Epson Matte Canvas Natural
  • Epson Matte Canvas Bright

Bond – This is a less expensive option that is still beautiful, similar to a heavy card stock

  • Epson Double Weight Matte

We also carry a few more exotic media including transparencies and backlit transparency (which is translucent opaque white) available upon request.

Control

We know that your prints are precious to you. That’s why we give you the level of control that you need to make absolutely sure that your final prints are just the way you want them.

Soft Proof

We have professional quality monitors that have been calibrated by a professional third party calibrator. Prior to printing you can double check your image on our monitors.

If you have a professional monitor and would like to soft proof your images, we’re happy to send you our ICC profile upon request.

If you need to make absolutely sure, we’ll print a hard proof for you. A hard proof is a 5″ test strip of your image printed on the media of your choice.

Tested

We’re passionate about longevity and we’re constantly researching it.

We use the same media, inks and printer as tested in this paper.

For example:

Our premium luster paper is rated at 83 years, when framed under glass and “represent the years of display for easily noticeable fading, changes in colour balance and/or staining occur.” (Wilhelm Research). It’s rated for greater than 200 yrs if displayed under UV glass or plexiglass.

If you have questions, we’re happy to answer them. Please get in touch.
